I've been pretty much oozing non-stop over Ryan Zimmerman for the last couple of weeks to everyone I know, so I figured I might as well let the lust spill over to this place.  He's absolutely blowing my mind right now.  In fact, I've pained through the last ten Washington Nationals games, just to see him get a hit.

Yes, it was worth it.

The hot-hitting third baseman singled in the first inning Sunday evening off Arizona Diamondbacks righty Max Scherzer to bring his amazing hitting streak to 28 games.

Zimmerman has ridden this impressive streak straight to the halfway point between nothing and badassery: Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio's unbreakable recor Hot Rodd of 56 games strung together by hits.  Now, he's no DiMaggio, but he's recorded the most hits in consecutive games for any Washington-based player, ever.  Making history must feel pretty sweet.

When MLB.com asked him what he thought of his accomplishment so far, he replied, "Halfway huh? There's a long way to go.  I'm concentrating on [extending the streak] to 29.  I really don't think about it or anything past the next game."

So humble. Earlier in the streak Senator Crushingham (yeah, still working out the kinks with the whole nickname thing) commented that he'd trade all of these hits for a few more wins for his 10-19 Nationals... except he's likely one of the main reasons they've won those ten games in the first place.  Geez, they're terrible.  Example: they hit four bombs Sunday and still managed to lost to the D'Backs, 10-8.

At the end of the day, Zim has 12 doubles, 6 homers, 22 RBIs, a .346 batting average and a .394 on-base percentage.  Yep, this is love.

All he needs to do is get at least one hit during his next 28 games.  The earliest this could happen is June 10th.  No sweat, right?  I have faith that he can beat one of the most hallowed feats in the history of the game... or maybe that's just my new-found, unhealthy obsession talking.

Zimmerman will take a crack at nailing one in consecutive game #29 when the Nats kick off a three game series against Randy Johnson (looking for career victory #298) and the San Francisco Giants at 10:15 ET tonight.  Good luck, hot stuff!  And good luck to you too, Big Unit.

San Francisco Giants lefty Randy Johnson will attempt to earn career victory #300 this week.  He will also land on MLB's endangered species list.

Manny Ramirez, as mentioned by Paul Greco yesterday, will serve a 50-game suspension for screwing up royally by failing to adhere to the MLB Drug Policy.  That's fifty games the cruising Los Angeles Dodgers will be forced to play without him.

I'm seriously beginning to wonder where the Washington Nationals get off thinking they have what it takes to be in the major leagues.

The one area of the game where they've really excelled as a team is handing the opposition three-game winning streaks, which is incredibly generous, but not cool if you're a Nationals fan.  At times this season, it seems as though they can't even spell their team's name correctly, let alone swing a bat and field a baseball.

Oh, it's just your Opening Day starter.

Happy Opening Week everyone!  I'd like to start by asking Yankees, Indians, Padres and Diamondbacks' fans to stop flipping out over their aces' recent performances.  Actually, Padres fans can flip out... you have a lot to worry about.
