For the past 150 plus years baseball has been played with three positions in the outfield. Why then did we start playing fantasy baseball for the last twenty years with all the outfield positions grouped as one position?  One of the newer trends in fantasy baseball has been go back to what we see on the actual field and to play with a right fielder, center fielder and left fielder position instead of the general  outfielder slot.  Earlier this week on Baseball Digest Live, FantasyPros911.com's own Tony Cincotta discussed just this thing with host Mark Healey, Baseball Digest's Online Editor.

Here is a quick run down of the generally the top 12 players in each position

Even though using separate outfield positions is a newer trend  I have been playing in dynasty league for the last six years which uses these separate positions.  Over that time I have learned the two things that are important.

One is that left field seems to almost always be stronger than right field.  Sort of like first base is almost always deeper than third base.  Use this knowledge to your advantage when drafting and making moves in this format.

The other is to maintain flexibility.  Try to make sure you have outfielders that will qualify for multiple outfield spots or else get a quality backup that can.  If you don’t have a backup that can move into these position injuries can be huge killers to your team.

I know many members of our FantasyPros911.com community play many different style of leagues.  If you get a chance  give this new trend a shot.  It adds a nice new dimension to the fantasy game.

the 24-year old Oriole rookie, won his major league debut against the Tigers on Thursday. Hernandez took 108 pitches to get through five and two thirds, but held the Tigers to only one run.

I have argued this for years. I proposed this in our league a couple weeks ago and was shot down. :s
