Fantasy Baseball Comeback Players for 2010 - Edwin Encarnacion - Part 2 of 15 PDF Print E-mail
Roaming The Outfield

Edwin Encarnacion has done it all - hit for average, hit for power and stolen a slew of bases.  He just hasn't done it all in the same year and after an injury plagued 2009 some now question if the breakout is ever coming.  Encarnacion suffered a bone chip in his wrist in April and never seem right, batting a dismal .225 on the season.  Throw in the fact that he left a bandbox in Cincy to play in Toronto and it's easy to understand why Edwin Encarnacion's value has plummeted heading into the 2010 fantasy baseball season.

Here are three reasons to think that Edwin Encarnacion will be a top comeback fantasy player in 2010:
  • He just turned 27, so he's young enough to rebound and is entering his prime
  • His Power Index in the 2nd half of last season was spot on with career norms
  •  ADP of 311 means he's practically free
Most projection systems are calling for Edwin Encarnacion to swat 22 HRs in roughly 500 AB.  If you insert replacement level skills for the other 100 ABs (or he earns 600 plate appearances on his own), and consider that he may have some upside left, Encarnacion could help your team push 30 HRs at third base.  The FREE FantasyPros911 2010 Draft Guide calls for 23 HRs, 70 Runs and 75 RBIs.

Edwin's draft position of 311 has him going as the 22nd third baseman overall, making the investment something close to an end-game flier.  Given that Edwin Encarnacion's power returned to career norms in the second half of last season there seems to be very little risk in picking him for the 2010 fantasy baseball season.  His skills may not be enough to be your #1 third baseman but Encarnacion could return excellent value as a corner infielder.
