Expert League Update
Written by Tony Cincotta

There are so many fantasy baseball leagues around the internet that call themselves a Fantasy Baseball Expert League. If you are like me, you look at the league and say, “Who are these guys?” This is not a slight on them; I have no idea if they are experienced or successful Fantasy Baseball players. It is impossible to keep up with every college kid on the internet with a website. That pimply college kid could have spent the whole semester putting together the world greatest database of baseball stats and figures.

The problem is that the college kid cannot gain entry into Tout Wars and doesn’t have the cash to play in National Fantasy Baseball Championship. So these guys never get the opportunity to show their stuff and play against the Big Boys. Until now that is!

We have put together the best field of experts outside of Tout Wars as well as the top bloggers on the Internet. This is a one of a kind of event that will continue to grow and hopefully will become the industry standard. The best part is that, unlike these other leagues, you can visit the www.FantasyPros911.com website all year long and get insight from all the combatants. Check out some of the facts and figures that are in place for this event:

The Highlights

  • The Auction format will be used in both leagues.

  • The leagues will be 5x5 in the traditional rotisserie format with 12 teams. The Expert League will be AL-only and the Bloggers’ Open will be NL-only

  • There is no entry fee: The cruise for 2 will come from www.FantasyPros911.com. There will be no airfare supplied.

  • We will be looking to confirm contestants by January 30, 2009.

  • A podcast detailing the expert league will be developed and placed on The Fantasy Sports Channel at BlogTalkRadio.com. The podcast will also become part of ITUNES radio and archived at both sites.

  • The auctions will be done online and on separate nights. The Bloggers’ Auction will be held on March 18, 2009 9:00 EST. The Experts’ Auction will be held on March 25, 2009 9:00 EST

  • The top 2 finishers in the blogger division gain access to expert league in 2010.

Thanks for the information Paul.

I currently cover basketball for Fanball and I'm writing baseball articles for Ray Flowers at BaseballGuys.com, so I think that I would qualify as a blogger, although I'm not sure how the criteria would work. I'm sure that you will have a lot of interested applicants, but add me to the list and I would love to compete against some of the best out there.

By the way, I love what you guys have done with this site. I've been a regular reader of the Generals website and Greco and Melnick, so it is great to get it all in one location. You guys are awesome. (Genuine compliments, not to be taken as kissing up, although it doesn't hurt does it? smilies/wink.gif )

Thanks,

Larry

Larry,

These leagues were setup as invite only. Next year, two of the EXPERTS will be gone, and the top two BLOGGERS will be moved up into the EXPERT. At that time we will accept applications for the two open spots in the BLOGGERS league.

Is there a way to request entry or get on a list for next year?

Was it by invite only?

I'd definately be interested if something else became available and would love to get into a league like this.

Thanks, Larry Yocum

Paul, I thought MDC doesn't support auction drafts? Isn't Fantasy Auctioneer basically the only auction site available?

Robert,

Our goal is to have the drafts on MockDraftCentral so that everyone can watch the draft. We are still working that out.

We will also be broadcasting them over BlogTalkRadio with play-by-play.

Will we be able to watch these auctions online as they take place?
