Fantasy Football's Week Four Waiver Wire Pickups are here! Many of these free agents have Week 4 starter potential or should be monitored closely as owners prepare for NFL bye weeks. These players are available in the majority of standard ESPN and Yahoo leagues as of September 27th.
QUARTERBACKS
Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions – The rookie from Georgia helped end the Lions losing streak with 264 total yards and a touchdown and did not turn the ball over once. Look for the Lions to build on this victory and give Stafford more opportunities to succeed. Stafford could be fantasy relevant but has tough matchups against the Bears, Steelers, and Packers before a week seven bye and is available in 93% of ESPN leagues and 90% of Yahoo! leagues Mark Sanchez, New York Jets – Now with three wins in three attempts, Sanchez should be looked at more seriously. The rookie from USC accounted for all three of the Jets' touchdowns as they knocked of the Titans in Week Three. Sanchez was 17 of 30 passing with two turnovers. The Jets play at New Orleans in week four in what should be a shootout and Sanchez is still available in 55% of ESPN leagues and 62% of Yahoo! leagues. RUNNING BACKS Jerome Harrison, Cleveland Browns – Harrison looked serviceable filling in for Jamal Lewis against the Baltimore Ravens. Cleveland got him 21 touches, which he turned into 85 yards against a top defense. Look for Cleveland to continue to utilize Harrison’s young legs against Cincinnati in week four. Harrison is available in almost all leagues and formats. Glen Coffee, San Francisco 49ers – Frank Gore left the game early with an ankle injury and watched Coffee grind out 54 yards on 25 rushes. The rookie from Alabama has value as the feature back any time Gore is ruled out. Coffee should only improve with experience and playing against anyone but the tough Minnesota Vikings run defense. Coffee available in 70% of ESPN leagues and 88% of Yahoo! leagues. Correll Buckhalter, Denver Broncos – Buckhalter stays on the waiver list as he does a lot with limited touches. Against Oakland, it took him just 14 carries to go over 100 yards rushing. He plays in Dallas in week four but may be worth a look during the bye weeks as he is available in 62% of ESPN leagues and 67% of Yahoo! leagues. WIDE RECEIVERS Nate Burleson, Seattle Seahawks – Even playing with a backup quarterback, Burleson has value. Burleson is playing healthy and already has 20 receptions, 229 yards and a score in his first three games. Look for the Seahawks to air the ball out against the Colts in Week Four giving Burleson plenty of opportunities. Burleson is available in 63% of ESPN leagues and 50% of Yahoo! leagues. Pierre Garcon, Indianapolis Colts – Garcon is performing well with 112 yards and two scores in the last two games. He is mostly a home run wide receiver and he will have a questionable role once Anthony Gonzalez returns from a knee injury. Garcon faces the Seahawks in week four and is available in 97% of ESPN leagues and 89% of Yahoo! leagues. Kevin Walter, Houston Texans – This waiver list is typically for players available in the majority of fantasy football leagues but Walter is worth mentioning. Some owners may have dumped the talented second wide receiver for Houston as he battled a hamstring injury. He came back strong in week three with seven catches, 96 yards and a score. Walter does not have a bye week until Week Ten and is available in 83% ESPN leagues and 70% of Yahoo! leagues so keep an eye out for him. TIGHT ENDS Brent Celek, Philadelphia Eagles – Even with Kevin Kolb behind center, the third year tight end posted an astounding line. Celek now has 22 catches, 255 yards and two scores in just three games. So far he is well worth the bye week four bench spot that he will cost owners. This is Celek’s fourth time on the waiver list and is still available in 69% of ESPN leagues and 45% of Yahoo! leagues. Vernon Davis, San Francisco 49ers – In a tough week for tight ends, Davis led the pack with seven receptions, 96 yards and two scores. This kind of output can’t be expected to continue but the 49ers do play at home against the winless Rams in week four. Davis is available in 91% of ESPN leagues and 59% of Yahoo! leagues. DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS Indianapolis Colts – This defensive unit held Arizona to just ten points in week three while recording four sacks and three turnovers. Peyton Manning keeps the pressure on the opponents and the Colts host Seattle, who will be starting Seneca Wallace in week four. Indianapolis is available in 84% of ESPN leagues and 73% of Yahoo! leagues. Houston Texans – The Texans called it in against the Jaguars in a Week Three loss. Look for them to rebound at home against the lowly Oakland Raiders. Oakland has just 303 total yards of offense in the past two weeks combined. Houston is available in 96% of ESPN leagues and 97% of Yahoo! leagues. KICKERS Matt Prater, Denver Broncos – This kicker already has seven field goals made in the first three games, including one from 50 yards. The Broncos have struggled on offense but in this case it has translated into a successful start for Prater. Denver will host Dallas in week four and Prater is available in 84% of ESPN leagues and 81% of Yahoo! leagues. John Carney, New Orleans Saints – The 45-year-old Carney stays on the waiver list for a fourth straight week after kicking his fifth field goal and 15th extra point. Carney plays at home against the New York Jets before a bye in Week Five. The Saints will have to decide whether to stick with Carney or go with Garrett Hartley who returns from a four-game suspension. It is hard to believe Carney will lose his job and he is available in 68% of ESPN leagues and 56% of Yahoo! leagues. Who else is available in the majority of leagues and has the potential to be this year’s fantasy sleeper? Check back weekly for waiver wire updates. Trackback(0)
