Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week Six Pickups PDF Print E-mail
Waiver Wire Pickups
Tuesday, 13 October 2009 00:00
Fantasy Football's Week Six Waiver Wire Pickups are here! Many of these free agents have Week Six starter potential or should be monitored closely as owners continue through the bye weeks. These players are available in the majority of standard ESPN and Yahoo leagues as of October 12th. The teams with a Week Six bye include Miami, Indianapolis, Dallas and San Francisco.

QUARTERBACKS

Matt Hasselbeck, Seattle Seahawks –
Hasselbeck returned from a rib injury and picked up right where he left off, lighting up the Jaguars secondary for four touchdowns. He found T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Nate Burleson for a pair of touchdowns each. The Seahawks host the Cardinals in Week Six in what will be a shootout. Hasselbeck is available in 46% of ESPN leagues and 45% of Yahoo! leagues.

Jake Delhomme, Carolina Panthers
– Carolina travels to a Tampa Bay in Week Six. The Buccaneers secondary was brutalized by Donovan McNabb for 264 yards and three scores. Delhomme has played better on the road this season, throwing for 528 yards and two scores combined in his two road games. Delhomme is available in 85% of ESPN leagues and 75% of Yahoo! leagues.

RUNNING BACKS

Sammy Morris, New England Patriots
– Morris played well against Denver, posting 107 total yards. With Fred Taylor out with an ankle injury, Morris got the majority of the touches. New England faces a Tennessee defense that will be more concerned with stopping Tom Brady which will give Morris room to run. Morris is available in 61% of ESPN leagues and 65% of Yahoo! leagues.

Michael Bush, Oakland Raiders
– The third-year running back is the only bright spot on an awful roster. Bush has two touchdowns scored this season and is a threat to make a play every time he touches the ball. JaMarcus Russell does not have the talent to keep defenses honest so it will be a struggle for Bush to get any breathing room in 2009. Bush is available in 69% of ESPN leagues and 77% of Yahoo! leagues.

Leon
Washington, New York Jets – Washington has been getting fewer touches each week. Many fantasy football owners have dropped him after a slow start, but he has value as a warm body during the bye weeks with the potential to make a big play or two. Washington plays two lousy teams in Week Six (Buffalo) and Week Seven (Oakland). He should get his hands on the ball a few more times even if it is after the game has been decided. Washington is available in 39% of ESPN leagues and 50% of Yahoo! leagues.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Eddie Royal, Denver Broncos
– Many fantasy football owners were fed up with Royal after a horrible start to the season. With just eight receptions in his first four games, Royal was sitting on the bench or the waiver league in Week Five. He exploded against New England for ten receptions and 90 yards and is now available in 45% of ESPN leagues and 50% of Yahoo! leagues.

Donnie Avery, St. Louis Rams –
Donnie Avery has hamstring problems and quarterback problems in 2009. He has huge upside if he and a Rams quarterback can stay on the field.  Avery had 87 receiving yards and a score against Minnesota in Week Five and will play well against the Jacksonville secondary in Week Six. Avery is available in 48% of ESPN leagues and 66% of Yahoo! leagues.

Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys –
Not just anyone can fill out a fantasy line with ten receptions, 250 yards, and a touchdown. Austin looked confident, quick and like the number one receiver that the Cowboys desperately need. Roy Williams has underperformed for years and Austin gives Dallas a legitimate threat. It is tough to pick up a receiver going into a bye week but this might be the exception. Look for room on fantasy football rosters as Austin is available in 98% of ESPN leagues and 59% of Yahoo! leagues.

TIGHT ENDS

Benjamin Watson, New England Patriots –
The waiver wire has been picked through for tight ends going into Week Six. Watson started 2009 with 77 yards and two touchdowns but has been quiet before adding a score in Week Five. Look for the Patriots to finally get on track against a terrible Titans' pass defense and bring Watson along for the ride in Week Six. Watson is still available in 61% of ESPN leagues and 55% of Yahoo! leagues.

Todd Heap, Baltimore Ravens
– Heap is more valuable in PPR leagues with 21 receptions and two touchdowns in the first five games. He has shown great chemistry with Joe Flacco and should be used frequently as a safety valve against a tough Minnesota defense in Week Six. Heap is available in 61% of ESPN leagues and 41% of Yahoo! leagues.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

Jacksonville
Jaguars – This defensive squad has little else going for it except a Week Six matchup against the dreadful Rams. The Jaguars were torched by the Seahawks in Week Five but should bounce back nicely at home against a team that has managed less than seven points per game including two shutouts. Jacksonville is available in 98% of ESPN leagues and 91% of Yahoo! leagues.

Carolina
Panthers – Another team worth considering based on matchups as they travel to Tampa Bay in Week Six. Quarterback Josh Johnson threw three interceptions and was sacked three times against the Eagles. The Buccaneers also surrendered a safety and have averaged less than 14 points per game. Carolina has had trouble forcing turnovers with just four total in 2009. The Panthers are available in 54% of ESPN leagues and 67% of Yahoo! leagues.

KICKERS

Josh Scobee, Jacksonville Jaguars –
Scobee and the Jaguars were humiliated in Week Five against Seattle. Jacksonville was shut out and Scobee did not attempt a kick. Look for the team to rebound against the lowly Rams in Week Six. Scobee had been a top six kicker going into Week Five and will be cut by many disappointed fantasy football owners. He is available in 89% of ESPN leagues and 45% of Yahoo! leagues.

Jason Elam, Atlanta Falcons –
Atlanta has a strong offense heading into a Week Six matchup against Chicago. Look for the Falcons to give Elam his share of scoring opportunities. Elam only has four made field goals in four games but should regain his 2008 form where he made 29 field goals. This placekicker is available in 41% of ESPN leagues and 69% of Yahoo! leagues.

Who else is available in the majority of leagues and has the potential to be this year’s fantasy sleeper? Check back weekly for waiver wire updates.
