Found this today.  I have to quibble with The Sandlot being number two! Despite Gehrig's creepy, Oedipal relationship with his mom, I have to give Pride of the Yankees the number one spot.

Count me in as one who is on board with "Eight men out". Not only a very good movie, but the guys in it actually looked like they could play. Unlike "The Natural" with Joe Don Baket trying to swing the lumber! Terrible!

Barry Pepper was very good as Maris in "61" as well.

this isnt the best baseball movies list, it is the baseball movies that affirm how great life is!

Good observation. With that said, "The Rookie" is a good movie to illustrate that point. As Don King would say "Only In America can a high school teacher hang up their whistle, pick up a baseball and pitch in front of millions".

I still disagree with the writers statement that The Natural is "The greatest baseball movie of all time"-which he states in his discrption of it.

Field of Dreams and Bull Durham were both better, and I even prefer several others over it as well. The book was better than the movie and it's "only in Hollywood" ending.

Since we're talking omissions, "Eight Men Out", about the Chicago "Black" Sox scandal, is a neo-classic and at least deserves a mention. It doesn't just count as a great baseball movie, but simply as a great movie IMHO.

A list that forgets about Bull Durham does not deserve to be consided seriously. Also, the fact that Major League is rated above Field of Dreams is disturbing.

Yeah Bull Durham is the most evident absence on the list. I also have to bring up a baseball movie that never got a lot of love from the mainstream but "Cobb" featuring Tommy Lee Jones is one of the greatest baseball movies of all time IMO.

On a side note, David Keith (the actor that played Jack Parkman in Major League 2) is the brother in law to one of my old college buddies.

No Bull Durham is an absolute joke. Perhaps the most realistic baseball movie ever. You gotta love Rookie of the Year. Gary Busey is a god amongst men.

I always liked The Fan. Kinda dark but DeNiro is awesome in it.

No love for "For the love of the game" it isn't as baseball-y as other movies, but I love the movie. I'm sad to see field of dreams so low.

I know it was never a cinematic gem or well acted or even a comedic classic like so many other baseball movies. But I still like "Stealing Home" especially if you are looking for a movie that shows life through baseball. It always is left off of baseball movie lists and gets a bad rap cause it has mark harmon in it. Its got romance for the wife, baseball and jody foster for guys, plus some great nostalgia and really bad drunken singing.

guess i like velvetta with my movies.
