| When former NFL quarterback Steve McNair was selected by the Houston Oilers with the No. 3 overall pick in the 1995 draft, he sent a letter home to his mother, Lucille McNair, with the phrase "You're fired!" written numerous times.
This was how Steve McNair told his mother ge would now be making enough money where she could quit her job. This is just one of the many feel-good stories McNair was known for in his life.  Last weekend, McNair was found dead in a condominium in Nashville. He was found shot twice in the head and twice in the chest alongside 20-year-old Sahel Kazemi, who was also found dead with a single bullet. As much as I hate to say it, all signs point to McNair being the victim of a murder-suicide incident since the gun was found nearby the body of Kazemi. Not to mention McNair was found with four bullet wounds and Kazemi only had one. McNair will always be remembered as one of the toughest quarterbacks to play the game of football. Teammates and opposing players around the league even referred to him as a "warrior" when he was on the field.  Whether you are a long-time fan of the Titans or simply just a fan of the NFL in general, McNair will be remembered by most for his performance against the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXIV. With Tennessee down 23-16 with a little over two minutes to go, McNair nearly led the Titans to the tying score on the game's final drive. Unfortunately, Titans wideout Kevin Dyson fell one-yard short of reaching the end zone as time expired. Despite the loss, the performance alone signified the type of player McNair was. Not only did he finish 22-of-36 for 214 yards passing and 64 yards rushing, but he had one key play on the Titans' final drive where he scrambled 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage, breaking tackle after tackle before hitting Dyson at the 10-yard line. Not only was McNair known for his stellar play on the field, but for the type of man he was off the field. He was well known as a family man, one who was dedicated to helping out the community in any way he could. Now, instead of McNair's legacy being remembered for the hard work he provided on and off the field, he will unfortunately be remembered by some based off the facts that have emerged over the last couple of days. When the breaking news stories were released last Saturday about McNair's death, many were curious what he was doing with a 20-year-old female considering he was married. As the investigation continued over the next few days, new facts would emerge that released a side of McNair that none of us would have ever imagined. A few days before the incident, reports were released about Kazemi's run in with the police, in which she was charged with a DUI with McNair in the passenger seat. While she was arrested, McNair was sent home in a taxi since he was not the one driving the vehicle. What makes this case even more bizzarre is the reports released that McNair and Kazemi were registered under a car together. Who was this 20-year-old female that McNair was hanging out with and what was their relationship? According to numerous reports, McNair and Kazemi had been dating for a few months while he was still married to his wife, Mechelle. Unfortunately, Mechelle was unaware of McNair's relationship with Kazemi before his death last weekend. All of a sudden, the former All-Pro and co-MVP lived a private life that family, friends and fans never knew about. How could a man who was so dedicated to his family and helping his community have an affair with another woman? According to reports, McNair met Kazemi at her place of business, a restaurant. Rumors continue to fly as the investigation continues day after day. Kazemi started dating McNair with the belief he was filing for divorce, even though there was no paperwork on file between Steve and Mechelle in Tennessee. The Miami Herald reported that Kazemi purchased the gun found at the crime scene a few days before the incident. Once again, all signs appear to point to a murder-suicide for the case.  Over the next couple of days, new details should continue to emerge about McNair and his "mistress." Unfortunately, as new details continue to emerge about the case, McNair's legacy will continue to take a downfall by those who disagree with his actions. No matter what, McNair's legacy will always be remembered for the work-horse he was as a quarterback who caused headaches for opposing defenses with not only his arm, but his legs too. He will also be remembered for the type of man he was off the field, as a father, friend, and community member. Unfortunately, his legacy may also be remembered for the details emerging from his apparent affair with Kazemi. I usually don't want to mix in my day job of politics, since this is my escape from it, but this reminds me so much of what just happened with Mark Sanford. Maybe I am just hyper-moral, or too old and married to think with little brain anymore, but dang. When you are that famous, when you have taken on so many responsibilities in your public life, what makes you think for a moment you can get away with stuff like that? As exciting as it may be in the moment, I just can't imagine that any fleeting pleasure with some Argentinian hussy or young curvaceous Indian waitress is worth throwing it all away, especially when you have so much to lose. I will remember Steve McNair for his valor on the football field, his extreme generosity in his community and personal life, and his love and respect from his peers, and I'll forgive him for being human. But still, dang, what a waste.

I think his legacy will be remembered for what it is. If you worship football players like they are Mother Theresa, you legacy of McNair is tarnished. If you look at him as just a football player, that YOU DO NOT KNOW...You respect him for what he gave on Sunday afternoon's. Seems pretty simple to me. Yet people that worry about his legacy are the same people tuning into Micheal Jackson coverage. Did ANYONE care about Micheal Jackson last month ? The answer in NO ! I could ask the same question about Steve McNair.
