Back to my infatuation with struggling pitchers...
Cliff Lee has officially matched his loss total of the entire 2008 season, and it's only April 23rd. Now 1-3 with a 5 Lee can blame some of his recent issues on a surprising lack of control (like that time he gave up 11 runs in his first two outings) but the real accusation must land on the constantly poor offensive performance from his 5-10 Indians. Last Thursday, he was back in Cy Young form when he surrendered just one run while fanning four New York Yankees for a 10-2 victory, his first and only of 2009. So what do you do with an ace who isn't acting his part? Well, CBS Sports has reported rumors that the club may look at trading the 30-year-old, much like they did with CC Sabathia when they fell out of the AL Central race. Ah, slow down 10-speed. It's only April. Apparently, Tribe operatives are beginning to speculate on whether Lee is a legitimate #1 starter or if he just hid a horseshoe somewhere inappropriate last season. However, the team has an option on him for 2010, so there's really no reason to rush to judgment. As far as fantasy advice goes, don't ditch Lee just yet. Pay attention to who he plays this season when you choose to start him, but to be honest, I see him as an excellent pitcher on a crappy team. So, stop sucking so much, Cleveland. Trackback(0)
